Daytime sleepiness with COPD

April 9, 2022
COPD patients frequently experience sleep disturbances. People with COPD cough and who have trouble breathing at night may wake up frequently and have difficulty falling or remaining asleep  during the night. It's also possible that you'll get less sleep and have poorer sleep quality. These data suggest that daytime sleepiness in COPD patients may be caused in part by nocturnal respiratory abnormalities, and that it is more common in younger patients with more severe pulmonary disease symptoms. The findings of this study indicated that COPD is linked to daytime sleepiness and poor sleep quality, which could be due to overnight respiratory issues and sleep apnea.
