At Salt World, we provide you a luxurious and relaxed experience in Float therapy. Our state of the art pool is filled with 800 kgs of Epsom salt and purified water to achieve buoyancy that enables you to float effortlessly. The temperature of the saline solution is set at your skin temperature so after sometime you feel completely weightless. The divide between your body and water disappears and you become one thus experiencing 'Floating'. Also known as sensory deprivation tank or isolation tank, the float has been constructed to minimize the onslaught of varied stimuli on the senses like light, sound, noise, moving visuals etc to achieve.

Every single day we are exposed to a slew of sensory experiences. Nowadays, it is definitely an overload. Constant exposure to gadgets, appliances, hectic lifestyle and erratic food habit take a toll on the body and mind over a period of time putting one in a 'fight and flight mode' 24/7.

When stress is left unchecked, it can contribute many health problems such as headaches, migraine, frequent insomnia, fatigue, stress, depression, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes. In turn this can lead to decreased productivity at work, lack of quality time with family and a definite disconnect with one's body and mind. To put it in simple words, Float therapy calms our overly stimulated system, restores the body’s chemical and metabolic balance and strengthens mind- body connection.

Origins of Float therapy

Earlier known as "sensory deprivation tanks," and "isolation tanks", Float therapy was invented in the United States in 1952 by Dr. John C. Lilly, a neuropsychiatrist interested in the effects of sensory deprivation on the brain. Over the years, his design went through a series of changes. The first commercially available Float tank came into the market in 1972. It has grown quickly over the past two decades in Europe and other parts of the world.

Float therapy is based on a scientific approach to deep relaxation called Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique or R.E.S.T. for short. Floating in a floatation tank triggers a deep relaxation response, much deeper than normal sleep. It enables us to drift into the elusive Theta state, which is hard to achieve.

Float therapy has many physical and mental benefits because it provides a higher level of relaxation. With the elimination of external stimuli, the central nervous system's workload is reduced by as much as 90%. This reduction draws a person's energy inward and promotes relaxation--also known as the parasympathetic response.

The parasympathetic response is the mechanism by which the body naturally regenerates itself and maintains chemical and metabolic balance. Old wounds and injuries get healed faster and increased T-cell production strengthens the immune system.

This deep level of relaxation also benefits the cardiovascular system. Known as the vasodilatory effect, the body's circulation is increased while the blood pressure and heart rate are reduced. Furthermore, the elimination of gravity on the body allows muscles and joints to release tension and heal more rapidly. For this reason, people suffering from musculoskeletal and rheumatic conditions greatly benefit from Float therapy.

The float therapy room has been layered and packed to make it sound proof. Minimal use of light (or the option of no light) has been provided to bring the mind and body to the state of stillness. It is in the ideal state that the brain produces theta waves, which are crucial for complete relaxation, healing and repair of the body, improved concentration and creativity.

WHAT IS THETA STATE?

Theta State is gateway into the subconscious. It is the state, which one achieves just before drifting into a deep sleep. It is a potent state, which is used in hypnosis to administer suggestions and affirmations, which can truly influence your beliefs and your behavior. Theta waves enhances creativity, evoke enlightenment and deep relaxation. In this state, one can also reduce pain, promote euphoria and stimulate the release of endorphins. Here, the brain waves are slowed down at a frequency of 4-7 cycles per second.

For ages, people have practiced meditation to achieve this absolute state of calmness- the state of oneness with the Universe. Float therapy is the best way to achieve nothingness, a meditative state that occurs when the brain is completely relaxed.

In this hectic and fast paced world, where competitive is the order of the day, we lose a bit of ourselves every day. Goals, targets, pie charts, PPTs, number crunching, expansion strategies occupy our minds not only during the day but also even in the night.

Though all of us crave this from within, normalcy, peace, content, stillness and quietness are now taboo words and frowned upon.

For most people, silence and inner reflection scares or bores them. With the over-stimulation of the senses through bright lights, constant din, exposed to radiation from gadgets and the restless further divides this connect. Severe neglect can lead to nervous breakdown, mental disintegration or make the body prone to innumerable diseases.

FIRST FLOAT - SURRENDER YOURSELF

Like any new endeavor or experience that you try, the first float can be a bit unnerving, exciting, overwhelming or you may not feel anything. These are normal reactions to be expected and must not come in way or deter you from completely surrendering yourself to the experience. It is also understandable if you are unable to relax or seem distracted. During the course of the therapy, if you experience a surge or plethora of emotions like joy, sadness, confusion etc, please note you are headed in the right direction.

With continued sessions, you will gradually be able to relax completely and achieve the full benefits of the sensory deprivation tank.

We have an open wide pool to help you stretch out though there is no need for you to move around. The light switch and panic button is placed inside the tub. It is recommended to undertake the float therapy in complete darkness. However, if you wish to leave the lights on, then do the same. You may also switch off the lights during the float when you get comfortable. In case of emergency, you can press the panic button and a therapist will be by your side.

Instructions

  • You need to start the therapy with a quick shower. Remove all residues of body lotion, cream or hair products.
  • Wipe yourself completely dry.
  • Taking the support of the railing located on the tub, gently enter the pool.
  • Plug your ear with ear plugs
  • Lie on your back and stretch out
  • Close your eyes and let yourself go.

Float sessions are scheduled only through appointments. So kindly book your appointment here. For your first float it is advisable that you arrive at least 15 minutes early. You can also take the opportunity to discuss your doubt, concerns and health issues with the therapist.

Yes, float therapy can helps you achieve complete relaxation which in turn helps you reduce your stress levels. It depends on your comfort level and the severity of your condition. We have an open and spacious pool with sufficient ventilation. You have the option to switch on or switch off the lights. You may even listen to some music to help your settle down initially. We have an emergency button in the pool which you can use. A full time staff is always near at hand to help, assist, guide and even talk to you.

A light meal one hour prior to the float session will suffice. Coming in empty stomach is not advisable neither with a full stomach as it may hinder or distract you from completely enjoying the float therapy.

Studies have shown that regular sessions of float therapy can help with reducing stress, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, joint ailments and chronic pain body. It can cure insomnia, high blood pressure, fatigue, joint and even muscle pain.

For people with chronic, stress-related muscle pain and burnout-related depression, floating served as an integral part of pain treatment plans, in one study. Since floating oxygenates your body by promoting vasodilation — better blood flow to the brain, organs, and limbs — it serves to minimize muscular pain and even pain from degenerative disc disease or herniated disks.

Specifically floating provides significant reductions in pain, muscle tension, stress, anxiety, and sadness for those who suffer from fibromyalgia. Floating also increases feelings of relaxation, well-being, energy, and ease of movement in the same group of people.

There are literally no contraindications of floating. However, we wouldn’t recommend float to people with epilepsy, incontinence, recently undergone surgery, large open wounds, or severe psychological disorders such schizophrenia.

Yes it is extremely beneficial for pregnant woman. With the advancing trimesters, it becomes extremely difficult of the body to support the growing weight. It can put undue strain on the joint and the back resulting in continuous aches and pain, discomfort and increase in stress levels. Float therapy not only eases and heals them but also leaves you refreshed with a positive outlook which is crucial during one's pregnancy.

A typical float session lasts 60 to 90 minutes. You may experience restlessness in the tank on your first float, until your body and mind settle into the sensory deprivation. Some float studios have water-based speakers with guided meditations to help you ease into your session.

It is recommended that you visit the wash room before the session. To avail the full benefit of the session, it is important that you stay undisturbed in the float for the full duration of time.

Yes you may listen to soft and soothing music or a track on guided meditation in the initial session. But as you progress it helps if you can avoid any auditory stimulation.

The staff will take you around the float chamber and explain the process to you. You can use this time to discuss your expectations and also clarify any doubts or concerns.

Whatever is required for your float like towels, shampoo, conditioners, soap, ear plugs will be provided to you. If needed you may get your change of clothes or undergarments.

It advised not to wear contact lenses. During your float there could be a chance that the saline solution enters your eye which could ruin them. You may request our staff for a container and solution to place your lens.

Though our pool is large enough to accommodate two people, we recommend just one person float at a time as you are required to float in nude.
