Nutrition session on Respiratory and Skin Health at Salt World

Salt World organised an interactive and informative session titled 'Ideal Nutrition and Diet for Respiratory and Skin Health' on 8th September, 2018 at its premises in HSR Layout. The session was conducted by renowned Nutritionist and Dietitian Geetha GH who spoke on the importance of adopting a holistic lifestyle with adequate sleep, positive well-being and eating a balanced meal rich with anti-oxidants such as fruits, vegetables, almonds, fish, wholegrain, lean meat, select spices and plenty of water. She also stressed on increasing the intake of food which had high content of Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, magnesium and Selenium to improve the function of the respiratory organs. The session lasted nearly an hour and a half with enthusiastic participants freely interacting with Geetha.

List of foods recommended by Geetha for lung and Skin health


  • Green leafy vegetables, oily fish and chicken soup which are good sources of Magnesium
  • Plenty of fruits and vegetables which have a high source of carotanoids like Lutein, zeaxanthine, lycopene
  • Green tea and small doses of red for their high source of flavanoids and carotenoids
  • Almonds and Wheatgerm which have the highest source of Vitamin E
  • Brazil nuts have the highest content of Selenium among all food. Just eating one brazil nut provides your day’s requirement of Selenium
  • Shellfish, muscles, oysters which are high sources of Zinc content. Also whole eggs, a variety of seeds and nuts, lentils and milk
  • Spices like ginger and turmeric
  • Herbs like Tulsi and mint
  • A minimum of two to three litres of water per day to properly hydrate the body

  • Smoking
  • Too much caffeinated drinks like tea and coffee
  • Excessive exposure to pollution
  • Irregular sleep patterns
  • Too much spicy food
  • Stress and anxiety
