Salt therapy aka halotherapy is a holistic treatment which takes place under simulated conditions of a natural salt cave. It is a natural and drugless therapy to relieve symptoms of respiratory and skin conditions. Dry microscopic salt particles when inhaled access the deepest area of the respiratory tract to cleanse your lungs of pathogens, smoke residues and pollutants. The therapy also enhances your child’s immunity and improves endurance.
A device releases the required percentage of dry salt aerosol into an enclosed room depending upon the condition. The walls and floor of the treatment room is additionally coated with salt layers to provide a complete sterile environment for healing. The room is enriched with salt particles ranging from 0-5 microns. Particles larger than 5 micrometres are caught in the nose and throat, while the smaller particles penetrate deep into the lungs.
Salt being anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial reduces swelling, gives relief from congestion, inflammation and allergies. It loosens the phlegm and mucous which is expelled from the body through the nose and mouth. The particles that reach the deepest part of the lungs cleanses the airways and slows down bacterial growth.
Skin conditions that cause itchiness, dryness, rashes or flaking are relieved due to the micro-circulation effect of the salt particles. IgE level (measure of antibodies) which is high in allergic conditions is lowered making the skin less reactive.
The salt aerosol carries a negative electric charge that stimulates the respiratory and skin system. These negative ions reduce stress, headaches, depression and improve energy levels, metabolism and sleep patterns.
Salt therapy is used to treat adults and children with the following conditions:
Salt therapy is also known to strengthen immunity for those who are susceptible to allergens and pollutants. Athletes and vocal intensive professionals like singers, musicians can benefit from salt therapy as it normalises breathing pattern and improves the lung function. The therapy promotes stress reduction by lowering blood pressure and also treats people with insomnia.
The recovery depends upon the type of condition and severity of your condition. You may require multiple sessions in case of chronic health problems where you can experience relief anywhere up to twelve months. You may notice considerable improvement within a couple of sessions for general ailments like cold, flu etc.

Mild skin irritation might occur for people with extremely sensitive skin which will wade of within a few days. Some may experience cough and mucous discharge which indicates that the body is responding well to treatment.

The environment inside the salt therapy room is extremely sterile and hygienic. There is no possibility for you to acquire any infection as salt is anti-bacterial and will absorb any prevalent microbes present within the room. In addition, our ventilation system constantly circulates the air during the session and for 15 minutes post each session. This ensures that the air within the therapy room is always fresh and filtered. Patients with contagious conditions are advised not to undergo salt therapy.
Salt therapy is safe for children and infants above 6 months. There are no side effects and it is a non-invasive treatment. They need to just breathe normally and the salt particles will work its way into their system. You will notice improvement in your child’s health as they respond quickly to natural healing methods. We permit adults to accompany their child during the treatment.
Many clinical studies have been conducted in the eastern part of Europe to prove the effectiveness of salt therapy. Research has shown that halotherapy gives positive relief for respiratory and skin conditions without any negative impact. Dr. A.V. Chervinsltaya, the head of Clinical Research Respiratory Center in St. Petersburg, Russia, has conducted most of the research on halotherapy and has published more than two hundred articles.
During one of the clinical trials, salt therapy resulted in improvement of the clinical state in:
(“Journal of Aerosol Medicine, A.V. Chervinskaya, Volume 8, Number 3, 1995”).
In Kimmo Saarinen, PhD (Finland’s South Karelia Allergy and Environment Institute) study, asthma patients reported fewer symptoms after inhaling salty air for 40 minutes a day for about two weeks. The average person enjoyed a roughly 34% drop in asthma symptoms.

Below is a study conducted by National Health Services (NHS) in the UK with Salt Cave, a wellness centre. We at Salt Word use Salt Cave’s technology for treatment.
Salt Cave has treated over 42,000 individuals between 2008 and 2014. According to their survey, nine out of ten clients felt satisfied with improvement and recommended salt therapy. In 2011, National Health Services (NHS), UK invited ‘The Salt Cave’ to participate in a pilot project, as part of the Personal Health Budget program, to provide therapy for COPD sufferers. The NHS studied the client’s treatment for a year and even sponsored for the same. Based on the results, the NHS took up the treatment charges for clients with COPD using ‘The Salt Cave’s technology.
During one of the clinical trials, Salt therapy resulted in improvement of the clinical state in:
(“Journal of Aerosol Medicine, A.V. Chervinskaya, Volume 8, Number 3, 1995”).
These studies showed positive results which has encouraged salt therapy to be accepted worldwide.

For people with chronic, stress-related muscle pain and burnout-related depression, floating served as an integral part of pain treatment plans, in one study. Since floating oxygenates your body by promoting vasodilation — better blood flow to the brain, organs, and limbs — it serves to minimize muscular pain and even pain from degenerative disc disease or herniated disks.
