What is Eczema?
In Greek meaning of Eczema means to boil out. Eczema is a condition in which skin swells up and becomes red, itchy and scaly. Eczema is also known as dermatitis. Eczema can crop up on face, inside elbows, on feet or on hand. It is not contagious. It is a long lasting disease. People suffering from eczema may develop fever or asthma.
What is atopic eczema?
It is a type of eczema in which your skin becomes red, itchy and dry. It is the most common type of eczema. It is more common in toddlers. Atopic Dermatitis is long lasting and often tends to flare periodically. It appears mostly on cheeks arms and legs. Exact cause of atopic eczema is not known but it is caused when our immune system is triggered from substance within the body that causes skin inflammation. It is said that 10% of population suffer from atopic eczema at some point of their life.
What is dyshidrotic eczema?
It is skin condition in which boils crop up on palms and feet. They are filled with fluids and are extremely itchy. Causes of dyshidrotic eczema is not known but they are associated with atopic eczema and hay fever. In severe dyshidrotic eczema small blisters will join together to form large blisters. Risk factors for dyshidrotic eczema includes stress, exposure to cobalt or nickel and sensitive skin.
How to cure eczema?
Eczema is a lifelong condition. There is no cure for eczema. One can stop flaring of skin by using certain medications like:
· Topical corticosteroid creams and ointments
· Systemic corticosteroid
· Antibiotics
· Antiviral and antifungal medications
· Barrier repair moisturizers
· Topical calcineurin inhibitors
· Phototherapy
· Salt therapy
